Another school year begins

Welcome back everyone!

It has been a relatively calm and ordered start to the 2017-18 school year – unusual really!

It’s so lovely to see the pupils back in school looking healthy and sun-kissed! I’m sure they grow quicker in the summer months, many are taller now than I am – they make me feel very proud!

We’ve welcomed a few new pupils and staff and said sad goodbyes to a group of very special leavers – Sophie, Robert, Tom, Luke, Molly and Andrew. They left Pear Tree in July and have each pursued their own chosen pathways to further independence, of course we wish each of them lots of love, luck, happiness and success.

As you will all know I am retiring at Christmas so this is my last term as Headteacher at Pear Tree School – what an honour! It’s been 13 years since I arrived and  it’s been a privilege and pleasure (well for at least half of the 13 years!).

And now as I approach my retirement I  reflect on everything that’s been achieved here and feel immense pride.  It’s almost time for me to move over and let Kate take the helm – she’s raring to go and is going to be just perfect!

I’ve just counted up in my diary and it’s 15 weeks until we finish for Christmas so I’ve got ages yet before I have to say goodbye.

So here goes…another school year begins, I say it every year and I’ve never been wrong – this is going to be the best year ever at Pear Tree School!!

Kindest regards,

Changing Times!

Dear Parents and Carers,

I realise that I’m not as diligent in updating my blog as all the classes at Pear Tree are – I think its an age thing; I’m the wrong side of middle age to be keeping up with 21st century technology!

My last blog was at the beginning of the school year, bearing in mind, we’re now 2/3rds of the way through this academic year that’s pretty poor – even though I say so myself.

I write now to let you all know that I have made the decision to retire with effect from 31st December 2017. That’s still 2 full terms away so we can all get used to the idea of change – me more than anyone else I guess!

The interviews for the next Headteacher at Pear Tree School have already taken place and I’m absolutely thrilled to tell you that Kate Walker, Assistant Head here at Pear Tree will take the helm as Headteacher from January 1st 2018. Kate has worked as a senior leader at Pear Tree for 7 years and has proven herself to be talented, inspirational, caring and passionate; to name just a few of her many qualities.

I have enjoyed almost every minute as Headteacher at Pear Tree. It’s a truly fabulous school which has been at the top of its game for many years. I’m proud of everything that’s been achieved here; especially by our wonderful children and young people. It’s been an absolute privilege to lead this school for the last 13 years but now it’s almost time to move over and give Kate the opportunity to take on headship!

I thank each and everyone of you for your support and friendship over the years.

I won’t say too much more now because there’s plenty of time for me to get the hang of this blogging business before I do eventually retire and you will hear more from me before I do!

Warmest wishes,

Another school year begins…

What a busy day it’s been, its hard to believe this is the first day back!

It has been so lovely to see all our wonderful children and young people coming back to school with smiles on their faces, new uniforms on and an inch or 2 taller! I hope the summer has been kind to you all, the return to school will be a relief I’m sure.

We all had a surprise when we discovered that Lindsey Dickinson our teacher in Early Years had got married in secret in Antigua; she is now Mrs Burt. Congratulations to Lindsey and Tom!

Here’s to another great year at Pear Tree!

Spot of decorating

Lovely Sarah in Class 1 has been to give me a 1:1 session on decorating my blog page – I hope you like it.

I find it very relaxing and restful; at this stage I can’t say the same about blogging!

Thank you Sarah

Here is my first blog,

Eventually I emerge into the 21st century. I’m surrounded by fantastic staff whose enthusiasm for all this is humbling. I’m determined to keep up!
